Among APOE4 carriers, the memory gap ran both directions

CAPTION
The most surprising number in this paper isn't the size of the effect. It's the direction.

Among women not using hormone therapy, APOE4 carriers scored roughly 3% lower on delayed memory than non-carriers — consistent with APOE4 being a known risk factor. Among hormone therapy users, APOE4 carriers had the highest delayed memory scores of any group analyzed.

The group expected to be at greatest disadvantage was the group where the association was strongest.
